Due to an upcoming retirement we are looking to evolve our current IT & Navigations Systems teams, bringing two teams together to drive benefits for the organisation in terms of scale of resource and technical skills. The team support circa 400 users as well as maintain Vessel Traffic Systems, radar, telemetry equipment along the 95 miles of the Tidal Thames. This is an exciting role for someone to take a strategic view and work with the business to develop systems which are commensurate with the second largest port in the UK.
As a key member of the senior management team, you will lead the development of the IT strategy, service portfolio and operating model, delivering transformational change to a growing port that is looking to further modernise and invest in IT.
Our customers’ experience, both internal and external is paramount. You will need to be proactive and responsive, looking to improve the service to both internal and external customers. You will have a can-do attitude and a track record of successful delivery.
The current infrastructure covers 5 main sites along the Thames from the Thames Barrier in the east to Richmond in the West and the main office being Gravesend in Kent. Infrastructure includes WLAN/LAN/WAN/SAN both on-premise and cloud-based servers. Microwave links, telematics, radar, radio, tide gauges etc. Systems supported are the usual head office based applications including Office 365, Unit 4 Business World ERP, Idox plus the operational systems required to run a port which include Vessel Traffic Service, integrated voice communication system for maritime radio services, solid state radars, pilotage ship bridge simulator and modelling systems as well as a host of other applications.
We have a mix of in-house and contracted services, including operating a 24/7 shift of engineers for Navigation Systems with a broad skill base responding to operationally critical systems.
With over 10 years managing and leading an IT team you must be able to communicate and influence clearly and persuasively, both verbally and in writing with excellent stakeholder management skills.
The successful candidate will need to personally get involved to review the current landscape and work with the teams to look at how we can modernise and improve the status quo. You must be able to demonstrate a high level of personal motivation and have the softer skills to motivate and develop a team.
This role will be largely office based with the team primarily in the Kent area. Covid safe measures are in place for everyone’s safety.
