Salary: £22,915 per annum (inclusive of allowances)
The principal responsibility of the Port of London Authority (PLA) is to ensure the year-round navigational safety of vessels along 95 miles of the tidal River Thames, from Teddington to the North Sea. The PLA keeps the main shipping channels open, co-ordinates shipping movements and provides expert ships pilots. Each year, commercial vessels call at more than 70 riverside terminals that together make up the second largest port in the UK, handling over 40 million tonnes of cargo.
We are looking for an enthusiastic Assistant Tradesperson to join our Civil Engineering team. The successful applicant will have a sound knowledge of construction and maintenance to semi-skilled level (NVQ2 or equivalent) gained through a recognised training scheme or at least 3 years’ experience in a relevant construction environment.
The role will include a wide range of work in a variety of settings throughout the PLA estate. Work will include carpentry e.g. hanging doors, fitting or replacement of ironmongery, furniture repairs, painting and decorating, plumbing, glazing, plastering, brickwork repairs and repointing. The role is supported by a well-equipped workshop for the pre-fabrication of items of work. There is a requirement to travel to multiple sites, and therefore you will need to be in possession of a full current driving licence.
The successful candidate will need be qualified to operate plant and skilled in the use of hand and mechanical tools.
