Portsmouth Naval Base Property Trust is seeking to recruit a full-time Instructor to join the expanding, dynamic team at IBTC Portsmouth, working in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.

Reporting to the Head of Teaching, the successful candidate will use their proven track record as a multi-disciplinary shipwright to teach boatbuilding to motivated students of all ages. They will contribute to the development and delivery of an exciting programme of courses, helping each individual student achieve a high standard of proficiency.

The successful applicant will have experience of managing diverse groups of people and of managing new builds, rebuilds and restorations on time and on budget. Strong teaching and communication skills are essential along with proficiency in woodworking machinery, hand and power tools.

Main duties include:

  1.  delivering high quality shipwright training to Learners in line with course syllabus;
  2.  assessing and recording Learner progress against training targets, creating tailored Learning Plans;
  3.  managing deployment of Learners to maximise learning opportunity and productivity, under the direction of   the  Head of Teaching and the Director of Marine Operations;
  4.  acting as Fire Warden during the working day and – on rotation – act as Fire Marshall to the building on  weekends (approximately 1 weekend in 6), training provided.
